“The great acting is aided by working with a writer.”
“It is guaranteed that you walk out with a gram more happiness that night.”
De Morgen
“Beautiful timid and full of dreamy poetry interpret Jansen and Inhibitors fulfilling their dreams . It’s whether they travel through a timeless space , forever linked.”
NRC Handelsblad
Rail Gourmet is the name of a packaging company under the Brussel-Midi (Brussels South) station, where the meals are wrapped up for the Thalys to Paris and the Eurostar to London. The Wunderbaum actors have visited the company and have been introduced to the people – coming from more than 60 different countries – who pack the food and wrap up the cutlery. Thereupon they took the lift upstairs, to the platforms, where businessmen, Euro MPs and tourists were waiting for their high-speed train. Personnel and travellers form two groups of people who are characteristic for the new Europe: a metropolitan melting pot of local and immigrant labourers, and a group of pan-European, mobile big earners.
With Rail Gourmet Wunderbaum relates a fresco of stories about characters who find themselves at this remarkable junction. It’s a multilingual performance, close to a railroad. Jens Bouttery (Camp Jesus) performs live music. A metropolitan triptych, on location in several cities in Flanders and the Netherlands.
Flemish author Annelies Verbeke has created special characters, which she has brought together in a universe full of parallel worlds. A railway station in Brussels becomes a metaphor for all those worlds in which people pass each other by without any real contact. We show characters who nevertheless have relationships in this environment and who try to save them, or who still manage to get in touch with each other for a moment. It provides crepitating sparks. Moments of high tension as these characters are all very emotionally charged, and for a moment find a way out.

“Rail Gourmet is a triptych, whose individual parts as trains are coupled together, and finally once again become loose. Ingeniously written as a mosaic, and beautifully played .”
