Bla Bla Bla Act Now

Theatre Rotterdam, the coalition of Productiehuis Rotterdam, Ro Theater, the Rotterdamse Schouwburg and Wunderbaum, will transform the main hall of the Rotterdamse Schouwburg on Friday 25 October 2013 into a theatrical congress that is completely out of control.

From the stage, visitors look into the congress hall and witness a climate summit that gradually degenerates into total chaos and inertia. A megacast of actors and amateur actors assume the roles of representatives of the people under the yoke of big multinationals. Political ideals give way to economic interests. Spin doctors and lobbyists reign supreme. Is our political system bankrupt

Afterwards, the lobby circus really begins: take part in workshops, speed dates and follow-up discussions with prominent guests in the foyer!

That may sound pessimistic, but fortunately, after the end of this Bla Bla Bla, visitors get to do their own thing with the Act Now section. In the Hall (or is it the lobby?) of the Rotterdam Schouwburg, people can get involved in the lobby party themselves, there will be speed dates and an after-party with dramatist Tobias Kokkelmans and, last but not least, former secretary-general of the UN climate agency UNFCCC Yvo de Boer. Florentijn Boddendijk and Remco de Jong (indispensable links within The New Forest Entertainment Department) will ensure with their musical input that this climate summit -as it should- continues into the night.

What we are actually going to see - the preparation process is still in full swing, so changes reserved - is the insanity of such a conference. Politicians who, full of good intentions, perform a secretive ritual dance behind closed doors only to come out afterwards with an agreement that actually contains nothing. The real agreements are made with lobbyists, in very different places from such a climate summit.
